TG Sitharam delivered keynote address at APAC 6th Global Education and Skill Conclave (GESC)

I am truly very glad to be a part of the APAC 6th Global Education & Skill Conclave which resonates with the message of ‘Educating Future India with Technology’. The conclave is of the utmost importance as it will enable various academicians, policy makers and leaders to deliberate on the role of technology in educating the future generation and optimizing the use of technology in future workforce.

The role of technology in shaping the future of education is nothing short of transformative. In the rapidly evolving landscape of the 21st century, technology serves as a powerful catalyst for innovation, accessibility, and effectiveness in education. Technology has the potential to break down barriers to education by making learning resources accessible to anyone, anywhere. With the proliferation of online courses, digital textbooks, and educational apps, a student can now access high-quality educational content regardless of their geographical location or socioeconomic status.

During COVID, we saw the optimum use of technology in digitally educating the children. DIKSHA, the nation’s digital infrastructure for providing quality e-content for school education in States/UTs and SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) became the most powerful tool for students' learning.

By 2047, we have to bridge the gap between education and industry. As we witness the dawn of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, characterized by automation, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation, it is imperative that our educational institutions adapt and evolve to meet the evolving needs of the workforce. This necessitates a paradigm shift in our approach to education, one that emphasizes experiential learning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the cultivation of 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability.

The role of Technology is crucial in promoting accessibility and inclusion in education for individuals with disabilities. Assistive technologies such as screen readers, speech recognition software, and captioning tools enable students with disabilities to fully participate in learning activities and access educational content on equal footing with their peers.

In fact, the National Education Policy 2020 recognizes the paramount significance of technology in education and proposes several initiatives to leverage technology to enhance teaching and learning in Technical Education. The policy emphasizes the need to create an inclusive educational environment that can reach a broad audience and promote equitable access to quality education. The policy underscores the establishment of the National Educational Technology Forum (NETF) to promote the integration of technology in education.

The APAAR (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) is another initiative by the Ministry of Education, which provides a unique identification number to students, faculty, and institutes using Digilocker, Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) and OpenAPIs. This registry will enable seamless integration of educational records across different systems and platforms, making it easier for students to access their academic records and for institutes to manage their data.

The National Digital Education Architecture (NDEAR) ecosystem is another initiative by the Ministry of Education, which aims to provide a comprehensive digital infrastructure for education. The ecosystem comprises several components, including the National Teacher Platform, the National Repository of Open Educational Resources, e-KUMBH, SWAYAM, the e-Content Creation and Dissemination Portal, and the One Nation One Digital Platform.

As the Chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), I am acutely aware of the pivotal role education and technology plays in shaping societies and driving progress. In an era defined by rapid technological advancements and evolving global dynamics, the need for a skilled and knowledgeable workforce has never been more pressing. Our success as nations hinges upon our ability to equip our youth with the tools and expertise required to thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape.

In line with the same, AICTE launched a Digital Skilling initiative to upskill 1 crore students and faculty. The initiative aims to equip students and faculty with the necessary digital skills to adapt to the rapidly changing demands of the 21st-century economy. The initiative encompasses a range of online courses in programming, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. These courses are meticulously designed to provide students with industry-relevant skills, thereby improving their employability and competitiveness in the job market.

The Anuvadini Artificial Intelligence text, video, and voice translation tool is an innovative technology that has the potential to revolutionize the way Technical Education is delivered. This stateof-the-art tool employs advanced machine learning algorithms to provide real-time translation of text, video, and voice content. The tool supports over 100 languages, making it an ideal solution for delivering education in multilingual environments. The Anuvadini AI tool can provide a seamless learning experience for students who are not fluent in the language of instruction. The tool can translate lectures, course materials, and other educational content in real-time, enabling students to understand and engage with the material more effectively. The tool can also provide translation services for faculty members, enabling them to communicate with students who speak different languages. The Anuvadini AI tool can also be used to create multilingual educational content. Faculty members can use the tool to create content in different languages, thereby promoting the accessibility and inclusivity of education. The tool can also translate existing educational content into different languages, enabling institutions to reach a broader audience.

By leveraging technology to enhance teaching and learning in Technical Education, we can improve the quality of education and make it more accessible and inclusive. The National Education Policy 2020 and the AICTE have recognized the critical role of technology in education and proposed several initiatives to leverage technology to enhance teaching and learning in Technical Education. The Anuvadini Artificial Intelligence text, video, and voice translation tool and the digital skilling initiative are exemplary initiatives that demonstrate the potential of technology to transform education. By embracing these initiatives, India can develop a workforce that is not only skilled but also adaptable and capable of driving innovation and growth in the economy.

The APAC Global Education & Skill Conclave serves as catalysts for collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.
